Male Fashion of the 18th Century

Male fashion of the 18th century was less varied than female fashion as it consisted of the same set of garments throughout: breeches, waistcoat and justaucorps. This fact makes it more difficult to notice the changes, which were relatively subtle, and creates the illusion that male costume was less changeable than the female.

It was the deshabillée or informal wear which changed the most, while formal wear - grande parure - was as conservative as formal wear usually is.
